This ethos follows the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who made generosity a cornerstone of the nation's identity. Today, the UAE is recognized by the United Nations as one of the world's leading donors of humanitarian aid. Since its founding in 1971, the UAE has woven giving into its national fabric, consistently standing at the forefront of global humanitarian and development assistance. Between 1971 and mid-2024, it provided over AED 360 billion (USD 98 billion) in foreign aid. For several years, it has ranked first globally in foreign aid contributions relative to gross national income, achieving a rate of 1.31% - nearly double the 0.7% target set by the United Nations. This reflects the country's unwavering commitment to supporting humanitarian causes worldwide.
