Motivating employees to innovate in institutional work mechanisms

Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) has been keen on studying and implementing a set of strategies, tools and methods, as well as related training programs, with the aim of improving institutional work mechanisms in various departments and at all levels in a comprehensive approach, based on the keenness MoFAIC's leadership to participate actively in achieving the vision of and objectives of the Ministry.

In this context, the Ministry has invested in the widely popular Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, which brings multi-dimensional benefits, allows for an increase in competitiveness, and an overall increase in the efficiency of procedures and services.

This required identifying critical success factors in a preparatory stage prior to the adoption and implementation of the system, by pinpointing gaps and risks, developing proactive solutions, and planning optimal work mechanisms.

However, state-of-the-art systems and technical tools are not beneficial without first-rate human capital capable of innovating and adapting to change.

MoFAIC succeeded in empowering and enabling employees at all levels to use and develop their skills, knowledge and experience, and to unleash their creativity to the fullest extent possible, thus enhancing performance, engagement and well-being simultaneously, through the dissemination of evidence-based organizational practices.

Work teams placed innovation at the heart of the change process. Empowerment followed naturally, as employees became partners in the institutional remodeling process through their contribution to the development of new work mechanisms. Such is the greatest evidence that innovation in the workplace is not inscribed in period of time, but rather results from a group of workplace practices and cultures that inspire and involve everyone, leaving the door wide open for creativity and excellence.
