Emirati Women's Day, celebrated this year under the theme 'Hand in Hand, We Celebrate 50 Years', marks an ideal occasion to honour the inspiring journey of women and their contributions to national development. Women's empowerment has always remained a strategic priority for the UAE's leadership, reflecting an unwavering faith in their ability to support diverse sectors, particularly the creative industries, which are significant drivers of the national economy. The UAE has implemented a unique model of women's empowerment, aligning with the ambitious vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. This approach continues under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan President of the UAE, and the esteemed patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the 'Mother of the Nation', who spearheads various initiatives to expand opportunities for women in the fields of culture, arts, and creative enterprise. Emirati women make up more than half of society, positioning them as fundamental partners in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). According to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, women constitute 66 per cent of the workforce across the UAE's federal government entities, with over 30 per cent holding leadership positions. Women's participation in the private sector has also increased by 21 per cent, with 46 per cent of the total female workforce occupying skilled roles. Remarkably, 63 per cent of national staff employed at the Ministry of Culture are women, who work across diverse sectors and contribute effectively to our mission, enhancing the role of Emirati women in the cultural and creative development journey. The National Policy for the Empowerment of Emirati Women 2023-2031 is a testament to the nation's long-standing efforts to elevate the position of women. This policy aims to guide decision-makers in federal and local government entities, the private sector, and civil society, thus advancing women's empowerment and leadership goals. Moreover, initiatives such as 'We Plant for Sustainability', sponsored by the 'Mother of the Nation', focus on supporting women's agricultural enterprise, thereby promoting sustainable economic development. Emirati women boast a commanding presence in the creative industries, including visual arts, design and fashion, media and publishing, as well as artistic production. Many of these projects were initially launched as individual initiatives but have flourished into successful cultural and commercial brands, thereby enhancing national identity and promoting Emirati culture globally. Furthermore, the presence of major creative platforms and festivals across the nation empowers women to showcase their creations, engage with global markets, and exchange experiences with creative leaders worldwide. Supporting women-led ventures in the creative sectors is not merely a tool for economic empowerment; it is also an investment in building an innovative and resource-diverse society. Creative industries seamlessly merge heritage and innovation-an area where Emirati women excel. They are adept at leveraging modern technologies to present traditional arts and develop products inspired by local culture but expressed with a modern spirit, opening new opportunities for sustainable development. Led by national initiatives such as the National Strategy for the Empowerment and Leadership of Women, as well as various creative business incubator projects, the UAE stands out as a leading hub for women entrepreneurs and creatives, enabling them to make a lasting cultural and economic impact. By empowering Emirati women, we are laying the foundation for a prosperous tomorrow. Guided by the unwavering support of our wise leadership and the expansion of national initiatives, women will continue to rise as drivers of innovation and development, remaining active contributors to shaping a bright future for generations to come.
